Temporary anchorage devices (TADs)
Orthodontic technology has come a long way, and with it, bulky headgear is a thing of the past. Thanks to temporary anchorage devices (TADs), we can achieve major tooth movements with minimal visibility and maximum precision.

What are temporary anchorage devices?
Temporary anchorage devices, or TADs, are small, medical-grade titanium screws used in orthodontics to assist with tooth movement. Each device is designed with a specific function and placement in mind, depending on your individual treatment needs.
TADs are gently placed into the jawbone and act as a secure anchor point, helping your orthodontist move teeth more predictably and efficiently.
How do TADs help with treatment?
TADs provide stable support during complex tooth movements, helping guide the teeth into their ideal positions without relying on other teeth for anchorage. In many cases, they make it possible to correct issues that once required headgear or even jaw surgery, such as open bites or severe crowding.
With TADs, we can achieve greater control, comfort, and results, all while keeping your smile journey as discreet as possible.
Does it hurt to get a TAD?
The procedure to place a TAD is quick and virtually painless. We use a local anesthetic to fully numb the area, so you’ll likely feel only mild pressure (if anything at all) during placement.
Afterward, you might experience some minor discomfor for 24–48 hours, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief. When your treatment is complete, TADs are simply removed in-office, with little to no discomfort and a fast healing process.
